Project 6: Digital Toolbox

Digital Toolbox Communication: Skype When thinking about the attributes of a global educator, Skype is an online technology that helps me to "flatten" the learning, encourage and model global citizenship, and design futuristic learning. Through Skype, my students can learn about and collaborate with students all over the world. The world has now become accessible to them and they have the opportunity to interact and learn from people they most likely would not have had the opportunity to learn from otherwise. Through these interactions, the students will gain knowledge of other cultures and empathy for the struggles that people may face around the world.  Community & Social Media: Twitter Twitter definitely helps me collaborate anywhere, anytime. I have grown both my professional learning network and my confidence through the Twitter chats I participated in. At the beginning of this course, I considered myself a " lurker "- someone who followed ...

Case Study 4 Peggy George & Wesley Fryer: The K12 Online Conferences  K12 Online Conference Peggy George and Wesley Fryer are two of the founders of The K12 Online C onference. The K12 Online Conference was a “free online conference open to anyone, organized by educators for educators around the world interested in integrating emerging technologies into classroom practice”. It is the perfect opportunity for a global educator to learn about new technologies to use in order to bring learners together, publish global experiences, and encourage student interaction and collabor...

#EdTechChat and #FlipgridForAll Twitter Chats

Twitter Chats #FlipgridForAll #EdTechChat Recently, I participated in two Twitter chats, the #EdTechChat (March 9) and #FlipgridForAll (April 8). I found these chats to be very relevant and helpful, as both focused on how to best implement distance learning as a result of COVID-19 school closures. #EdTechChat's focus was on the overall ideas of online learning (this chat happened early in the online-learning transition for some of the first districts to make the change) and #FlipgridForAll's focus was how to best use Flipgrid for both instruction and maintaining connections with students during online learning.  Similarities & Differences #EdTechChat and #FlipgridForAll were similar in the sense that they both focused on remote learning (what doesn't these days?). There were a few major differences between the two chats. The first is that I found #FlipgridForAll to be much faster-paced and active than #EdTechChat. This may be because the #EdTechChat occ...
