Case Study 3 Global Educator Tracey Winey Tracey Winey Tracey Winey is a media specialist and STEM Integration Specialist at Preston Middle School in Colorado. She is also a co-founder of Engineering Brightness . She has a website ( Media Wine: Unexpected Possibilities ) and actively collaborates with colleagues through her Twitter account. Tracey Winey exhibits many attributes of a global education leader, but the attributes that stand out the most are “encourage and model global citizenship” and “design futuristic learning environments to connect with the world”. In Tracey’s One Million Lights project , her middle school students collaborated with a high school in Canada, a primary school in the United Kingdom, and schools in Uganda and the Dominican Republic. She made sure to emphasize that nothing about this project was an act of charity- every person involved in the project had a specific role and used their talents to accomplish a goal. This work shows that she is...

Workflow/Scheduling Tools & Collaboration/Co-Creation Tools

Workflow/Scheduling Tools & Collaboration/Co-Creation Tools Google Calendar Google Calendar The workflow/scheduling tool I chose to research is Google Calendar. My school district uses Google Calendar to schedule meetings so I am already pretty familiar with the basics, but I learned about many new features I was unaware of while doing some additional research. It's impressive that Google Calendar allows you to add other people to meetings and set your available hours, but I think the most impressive feature is the "find a time" option. This allows you to check the availability of the other people you're requesting at your appointment, so you can find a time when everyone is available. This seems very efficient, so you don't have the back-and-forth of emails trying to find availability for all. I also like that you can include a Google Hangout Meet link to your Google Calendar appointment. Now that my district is completely online for the remainder o...

He also works for Harvard and is co-editor of Flip the System Australia: What Matters in Education . He has a blog called “ It’s About Learning ” and a Twitter account , both of which he updates frequently. What attributes of a global education leader does this educator exemplify? Cameron exemplifies many of the attributes of a global education leader, but it seems the attribute he most demonstrates is the ability to design futuristic learning environments to connect students with the world. He shows this through his work in Harvard’s Project Zero Classroom , which helps teachers design engaging and exciting learning experiences for all learners. Cameron also conveys the importance of designing futuristic learning environments to connect with the world through his social media posts. On Twitter, he posted...

Communication Tools

Communication Tools Skype in the Classroom In this time of uncertainty around school closures due to COVID-19, discussing communication tools seems more relevant than ever. I have no doubt that an abundance of tools are being used for teachers and students to not only communicate, but to also help enhance student learning past simply substituting high-quality lessons with online worksheets. The tool I chose to explore is Skype. I have used Skype on a personal level, but hadn't considered using it for educational purposes. Skype has many useful features, but the ones I was most interested in are the ability to have an audio/visual conference with up to 50 people and also the ability to record any sessions. The ability to record and refer back to later seems like an especially useful tool for students who need additional time for processing or need the information presented in smaller chunks. If my district were to close for an extended length of time, I think I would like...

Case Study 1: Global Educator Kim Cofino

kimcofino.com Case Study 1 Global Educator Kim Cofino Kim Cofino is a technology consultant and educator that currently lives in Bangkok. She has a blog ( Always Learning ), a Youtube channel, an Instagram account, and a Twitter account. What attributes of a global educator does this educator exemplify? In my opinion, Kim Cofino exhibits all of the attributes of a global educator. One way she flattens the learning is by consulting with districts about how to collaborate effectively with other students and manage projects across different time zones. She encourages and models global citizenship with the lessons for students that she designs. Her website states, “ I design interactive experiences for students that highlight and enliven new technological tools while focusing on collaboration, creativity, communication and digital citizenship.” She helps teachers learn how to collaborate more effectively through different tools and tips, one of which being this blog post ...
